In Aug '08, a study team comprising Commonwealth Human Ecology Council (CHEC) academics went to Belize to conduct an in-depth case study into the issues around IUU and overfishing in the area. Key issues are available in the download section.

A Civil Society Consultation with regional fisheries stakeholders took place in St.Vincent on the 12th Jan '09. This was followed by a Caribbean study tour (St Lucia, Trinidad & Belize) during Jan-Feb '09. Study team members concluded that countries in the region need a more balanced approach to development and tourism, which gives a higher priority to fisheries and traditional fishing communities.

Key findings are detailed in the press release and comprehensive reports on the consultation and study tour are available here for download.
