Indian Ocean

Programme members conducted an Indian Ocean Study Tour on 3-15th Nov '08 aimed at highlighting major challenges in fisheries management and finding innovative methods to help overcome them.

Fisheries experts were brought together from Tanzania, Mozambique and Mauritius for the international exchange programme. Key areas of research included:

  • How Mauritius as a small island has responded positively to challenges affectings its fisheries
  • Coastal communities in the Black River region
  • Industrial sectors and tuna processing centres in the region

The results have been compiled in a report, which is available here for download. A response from the Mauritian government can also be viewed.

In Sept-Oct '09, The CPSU conducted their final study tour to South Asia and visited India, Bangladesh and Pakistan. The full report will be available in January '10.
